Palmisano: Consequences of Obamacare Coming to Light
Palmisano: Consequences of Obamacare Coming to Light | Louisiana Medical News, Health Care reform
The unpopularity of the health care bill is becoming increasingly evident.   Elected officials have begun pressing the problematic issues of the bill and campaigns nationwide are speaking out in opposition.   The repercussions of the Administration’s health reform legislation are surfacing and Americans are looking to our nation’s courts for answers.

With the November elections just weeks away, discussion over repealing the health care reform bill has intensified and is becoming a campaign platform focus.  The Hill recently released a national poll that indicated 1 in 4 Democrats favor repealing the healthcare bill.  Campaigns across the political spectrum are touting against the healthcare bill and demanding an overturn now that it is obvious, “healthcare is a major issue for voters this year.”  Mark Penn led the Pen Schoen Berland’s polling team and said he found, “most people [polled] actually favor repeal of the healthcare legislation, and that included 54 percent of the independents.”

In Florida, the Wall Street Journal reported U.S. District Judge Roger Vinson, “ruled that 20 U.S. states can proceed with their lawsuit seeking to overturn President Barack Obama’s landmark healthcare reform law.” While several claims were rejected, Vinson “made two rather large rulings in their favor,” and indicated, “the case would continue as scheduled.”   Similar lawsuits across the nation are pending.  The Hill stated, “Judge Henry Hudson of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia denied the administration’s request to throw out Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli’s lawsuit.” Hudson wrote, “this regulation radically changes the landscape of health insurance coverage in America.”   The Virginia case is scheduled for Monday, October 18, 2010.

Numerous reports expose the true and underlying consequences of the healthcare bill.  According to a recent article, “the Obama administration is essentially admitting that the health insurance reform it forced upon the American people can’t work as advertised.”  The article explains how major companies are unable to carry the burdens from increased healthcare costs.   Companies like McDonalds raised concerns signifying, “the mandates would either force them to pass along higher costs to their workers, lay some of those workers off, or drop health coverage entirely.”   In response, the Department of Health and Human Services will issue one-year waivers from the mandate to a specified list comprised of 30 companies or organizations.   Nearly a million working are spared from losing coverage or even their employment.  Unfortunately, “tens of millions of American workers, are receiving neither waivers nor any relief from the mandates of reform.”

These next few months are crucial and each of us has a significant role in the health care discussion.  I will continue to keep you informed on new developments as the debate continues to take shape.  Thank you for your support and efforts to protect patient’s rights.
