The past several weeks of this Legislative Session have been very difficult for Louisiana's healthcare stakeholders. The Louisiana Hospital Association has mounted a highly-visible public relations effort that included newspapers, radio, television and even social media outlets on the internet. The LHA's goal has been to educate the public and the legislature regarding the impact the proposed funding cuts will have on healthcare services and jobs in their respective communities.
In addition, there have been continuous contacts made by CEOs and hospital personnel from all over the state to representatives, senators and the governor expressing the LHA's position.
At one point the Senate Finance Committee and the full Senate had restored 75 percent of funding for Louisiana's healthcare providers, but it was effectively removed when the governor announced that he would not approve the use of the Rainy Day Fund to make the budget whole.
Hospital CEOs from all over the state will be at the Capitol at 9 a.m. on Monday, June 22 urging legislators to eliminate healthcare cuts and fully restore funding to hospitals, physicians and other healthcare providers. The LHA is encouraging hospital physicians, staff, trustees and volunteers to continue calling and faxing their representatives and senators at the Capitol starting Sunday afternoon through next Thursday.
The LHA is actively encouraging its members to contact their legislators with the message: “Eliminate the cuts. Restore the funding to hospitals, physicians and other healthcare providers.”
